The Problem:
The movie theater was experiencing sewer backup problems caused by a deteriorating cast iron piping system. At its worst the owners were having the drains cleared out several times a week. The bottom of the cast iron pipe was missing in several areas of the piping system. It was clear that the piping was reaching the end of its useful life. Traditional dig and replace methods are invasive and could keep the theater closed for several days, if not weeks, while the costly repairs are being made. Lost revenue and unhappy customers can make owners very nervous.
The Solution:
A Cured-in-Place-Pipe (CIPP) lining system installed by Dynamic Drain Technologies. Careful planning was needed to control water flow in the two women’s and two men’s gang bathrooms and concession stand during the pipe cleaning and CIPP lining project. The under-slab piping was CCTV inspected, located and mapped. The data was then used to put together a schedule that would keep the theater open for the duration of the project. Our clients also received a daily project tracking spreadsheet to keep them informed on our progress. Work began each night after the last show let out, around 1:30a.m. Careful cleaning in conjunction with CCTV inspection was utilized to save what little integrity was left in the badly deteriorated pipes. Nine CIPP liners of various lengths were installed in over 400’ liner feet of hard to access under slab piping in just 9 days. In all, the lateral sanitary sewer piping to over 50 plumbing fixtures was lined. Lateral line reinstatements were completed using state of the art internal pipe cutting equipment. The final liner installed ran underneath the newly renovated main stadium seating theater out to a manhole in the parking lot. Pre and post lining inspection reports and videos were delivered via Dropbox upon completion of the project.
